Contradiction

A brief description of contradiction is when you feel or say something, but in the end you do the complete opposite of it. A synonym of contradiction is hypocrisy. I will give you an example of contradiction from The Banneker's letter to former US President Thomas Jefferson, written in 1791 concerning problems of injustice that Banneker felt towards African American people.

In his letter to Mr. Jefferson, Banneker uses strong words to try to in some kind denigrate Thomas Jefferson and make him realize what he's doing is wrong . For example he say's that by "detaining by fraud and violence s numerous a part of my brethren (pg2)", he is going against what god asks human beings to do. So in some way he is saying that Jefferson was evil.

On the other hand, we can also see Banneker praising Mr. Jefferson. We can see him say "on that distinguished and dignified station on which you stand (pg1)".

So in this case we can see that Banneker contradicts himself as he says two things that are the opposite of each other. He criticizes Jefferson but praises him also.
